Eagle FC: The Successful Launch of a MMA League
As the CMO, I led the go-to-market and creative strategy making waves in a highly competitive MMA landscape and streaming environment.
Success highlights:
- FlexCast App (Saas): 260k global subscribers after only 3 events.
- U.S. Ave Event Viewership: 450k - Higher than Bellator (200k) and PFL (150k)
- Social Media Milestones: +120k followers on YouTube; +270k followers on IG; 35M Organic Impressions Twitter
A Little Background
Retiring after 12 years as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, Khabib Nurmagomedov, brought his passion for combat sports to life in 2020 with the creation of Eagle FC. Khabib is one of the most well-respected and well-known athletes in the World (40M Instagram followers alone).
In January 2021, Eagle FC hosted its first U.S. Based MMA Event in Miami (Eagle FC 44) thus announcing the league’s U.S. debut. Eagle FC 44 was a huge success netting +89% subscriber growth in just 3 days and over 470k live video impressions.
After the tremendous success of Eagle FC 44, Eagle FC went on to host 2 subsequent U.S. Based fights. All fights were live as well as streamed on Eagle FC’s FLXcast app.
Regrettably, Eagle FC faced bankruptcy in 2023 due to the crypto market collapse, which led to several sponsors withdrawing their financial commitments.
The Mission
To completely create a new brand from the ground up including, but not limited do: Brand identity, ethos, sponsorships, live-event production, marketing, app development, event signage, fighter kits, fan engagement, and global go-to-market strategy.
The Creative Strategy
The approach was simple: stand out by doing things differently. At the time, every MMA league was following the same formula – the UFC formula. Social ads all looked alike, with similar fonts, fighter placements, and tune-in details. While others conformed, we chose a new direction. Our goal was to create something fresh, impactful, and premium. Drawing inspiration from the film industry, we designed our fight posters, tale of the tape, and social content to resemble movie premiere posters.
